Avea is a small, rapidly growing SaaS company, and the Director of Engineering will lead the entire engineering function. The ideal candidate will feel equally qualified to participate in the development of strategy with senior leadership as well as work directly with engineers on their specific sprint stories. You love partnering with Product to deliver timely and disruptive product launches that delight our clients. And, you’ll be counted on to bring ideas, innovation and efficacy to those technical solutions. 

 

This is a position where your leadership skills can really shine. You will directly lead, manage, and mentor our existing team of engineers while also making the business case for the right way to scale our development through partnering or hire. Critically, you will be responsible for creating an environment (for both on-site and remote engineers) that fosters and values teamwork, commits to decisions and plans of actions, and holds one another accountable. And, as a member of the Avea leadership team, you will play a key role in building trust and creating transparency and clarity throughout our organization. 

 

What You'll Be Doing:

 
  • Represent Engineering on the Avea Leadership team, including working with leadership to establish and achieve the strategic plan

  • Partner with Product in developing and communicating a product roadmap that positions Avea Solutions as the premium offering in our market.

  • Manage a team of engineers (dev and qa) in scaling the Avea platform with a focus on engineering and operational excellence

  • Model and coach the technical team on process, quality, and delivery management

  • Delight customers by ensuring predictable delivery of features, actively managing their issues, and delivering timely fixes

  • Collaborate with product managers and developers in planning sessions to interpret the product roadmap and product specifications in building new features. Assess complexity in building features, provide accurate estimates and identify risk

  • Participate in code and design reviews to help ensure stability and quality, and be an active participant/leader in demo days and retrospectives

  • Oversee, direct and participate in quality initiatives with a focus on automation and efficiency

  • Help Recruit new talent to grow the team and mentor team members

  • Clear roadblocks for the team and empower them to do their best work

  • Roll up your sleeves and join the team in hands on product development

 

What You Bring:

  • A minimum of 5 years in a leadership role with 5+ direct reports

  • A great track record in building and delivering modern B2B applications

  • Strong technical (tactical) and business (strategic) acumen

  • Experience with SaaS product development using multiple paradigms (Ruby on Rails, ASP.NET, Kubernetes, Azure SQL Database)

  • Experience with microservice development and deployment

  • Experience with Rest or Graph API frameworks and 3rd party application integration

  • Experience with business analytics, cloud warehouses and python development

  • Experience w/ SQL Server

  • Experience w/ Azure and CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Jenkins, CircleCI, Azure Pipelines, BitBucket Pipelines)

  • Experience with container based deployments

  • Excellent communication and judgment in decision making

  • Experience with Agile and Scrum

  • Ability to context switch frequently in a fast paced environment

  • Technical knowledge of Healthcare (FHIR, HIPAA, HL7, OAuth) highly desired
